August 13, 2020 ELECTION OF SURNAME ORDER

Dear clients and friends:

On October 24, 2017, a decree was published in the Official Gazette of Mexico City amending Article 58 of the Civil Code for the Federal District, which eliminates the priority of the surnames of minors when they are registered with the Civil Registry. The decree entered into force the day after its publication.

In other words, now parents may register their children under the order of last names that they agree, the same order that must be considered for the other children of the same relationship.
